Has anyone ever had success throwing a Regular Rico on a baitcaster- maybe with an SV spool?

 

i realize the Rio is going to be bigger but want to see how well the little guy casts on your experience.

You shouldn't have any problem. I like throwing a Rico on one of IKE's 6'6 1st gen rods. The rod loads nicely to sling the Rico. And the length of the rod allows me to walk the bait easily even in a Kayak. 

Ricos cast well for a small lure, if you are having trouble, the rod is too stiff, or operator error or both. I throw them and other same sized poppers on a 6' Med with 12lb BG and an old Pinnacle reel with 6 pin centrifugal brakes. Other than into a stiff wind (why would anyone throw a popper in the wind) no problems.

Tension knob is barely tight, just enough to make the spool not clatter when casting. Mag dial is usually around 5-6 with the Rico. This set up goes a good distance for the Rico.
