opinion on these hull scratches

Featured Replies

I just received my kayak that I ordered online, and it was brought by a freight truck.

After opening the wrapping, there were two gouges/scrapes that have me a little concerned.  I have already contacted the place I bought them from and they are working with me on either a discount, or getting a replacement.

Before I go through the hassle of returning the kayak, maybe these scratches are not as bad as I think.  They are close to the seam though.

Can you please take a look at the two photos below, and let me know if I should exchange it for a new?

Is it anything to be concerned about?

I would take the discount and keep the Yak.  Those scratches look pretty minimal to me.  I'd wager the first time you coast in on a rocky bank, you'll have a lot more just like them.

They even offered to send me a KC welder, offer the credit, along with welder filler.

I'd be ok with filling it in.

That sounds good.

I agree with toxic, those scrapes aren't bad at all.  I've put worse in my yak.

You will get more than that just loading and unloading.  Take the discount and have fun.  These kayaks can take a lot.

just to double check, I shined a flashlight over the scratches and saw nothing inside the hull, so I believe I'm good.  I have accepted their offer and will move forward.  I wish it were warmer so I could take it on the water and test it.  But I will need to wait for April/May.  Certainly don't want to roll it in this weather.

thanks for the input
