Falcon Lowrider Rod Swap

Featured Replies

I have the opportunity to exchange several of my Falcon BuCoo Micro rods for the new Falcon Lowrider Series of rods. I plan on getting five or six of them. I was wondering which of the rods you would get if you were only getting the casting rods.

I want a dedicated Chatterbait rod, dedicated Spinnerbait rod, flipping/pitching light jigs to docks, and im not set on the rest.

6’10” Heavy for finesse jigs

7’0” MH Mod-Fast for chatterbaits

7’0” MH Mod-Fast for spinnerbaits

7’0” MH Fast for all-purpose

6’7” MH Mod-Fast for neko rigs

? 7’m cranking

7’2” h pr 7’3” h for frogs?

sounds awesome on paper, was debating between the 7'3" and 7'2" I have a 7'3" mh rod and h already so was thinking of going with the 7'2 for swim jigs and fishing heavy wood and some vertical grass...and maybe adding the 7'3 down the road. on paper they both look identical, one is an inch longer. can you comment on this?

The LFC-74H Heavy Cover & the LFC-73HH Amistad are the two I would pick.

I like the 6'8" MH/MF Lowrider for blade baits.  It's short enough to target cast but you can still get decent distance, plus just enough give.

Trying to improve my hook up percentage when flipping jigs.  Currently using a Lowrider "All 'round Fast" LFC-7MHF.  Would it make a difference to go with a Lowrider "Hudson" LFC-74H? What tips could you share for choosing the right rod?  Any suggestions?

My favorite Falcons were always the Amistad, Head turner , weightless worm ( makes a great jerkbait rod )

and Mansfield for warts and RK crawlers . Also the finesse jig (old Eakins) rod.

For Flipping around docks I always liked the Head Turner.

I've started using a Lowrider (the older red one) in the Amistad model for frogs about a year ago, and I'm really happy with it.  I don't have any of the other profiles you listed.  I haven't fished the new Lowriders, but I know that the BuCoos  I've tried had a softer tip/more like a moderate to moderate-fast taper.  If you were really liking those, some like the Amistad have a true fast action when you go to the Lowrider and Cara ST/T7 lines.  Again, no experience with the new models.

the 7'4" h and 7' mh fast are two very different rods. what would you be using lure wise?

X2. I've got 3 Cara Head Turners and may snag another Expert version. Awesome for pitching 1/2oz and under. Over 1/2 and I'd go Amistad.

Im getting the weightless worm for a lighter all around, the mod fast 7' mh for spinnerbaits and square bills, and the 7'2" mh swim jig for swim jigs. any experience

what else do you use that rod for?

im thinking small cranks and seniors and smaller chatter baits, moving baits or plastics basically. reel will be aldy with 20 lb braid

I have the Weightless Worm and Swim Jig rods as well. Besides jigs and T rigs, I also use the Head Turner for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. I use the Swim Jig for Keitechs, Senkos, Fat Ikas, crankbaits, lipless baits. I mostly use the WW rod as my lighter topwater rod.

it appears the rods are lighter than they are labeled, ex mh ww is more of a standard for m?

ever throw swim jigs on the 7'2"

It all depends on what your reference point is since there is no standard for rod powers or actions. That said, yes, Falcons tend to fish a tad lighter in power than their rating (and St Croix's a tad heavier). The WW rod for sure fishes like a M.

I throw swim jigs a lot on the 7'2" (have 2). I use fluoro on one for open water and brain on another around weeds.

I think the Swim Jig rod is the most versatile rod ever. Reminds me a lot of the Loomis 843MBR action. I use it for all moving baits 1/2 oz and under as well as slack line Senko and Fat Ika fishing in light to moderate cover. But the rod I use most is the Head Turner, mostly because I love jig fishing and don't fish super thick cover as much. For that I use the Amistad.

I am looking for a good flipping stick for heavy cover (3/8 - 1/2 jig or TRig).  I have been using a 7’ MH/F rod for it - missing on the hook-set.  Thinking I need a H/F To improve hook-set? Your thoughts?

Quarry Man.. Sorry I just saw your post about the Weigthless worm ,I've been on the lake a lot.

I always used the WW for jerkbaits and floating worms like the ol' merthiolate trick worm which they should be willing to chase soon. and also a good Fluke rod.

If your looking for a heavier jig rod that you could also flip with my choice would be the Amistad.
