Any LEGEND Feedback

Featured Replies

Looking to buy possibly a Legend.  Everything I've heard has been possitive.  "Ride of a Champion, Speed of a Skeeter".  I know the designer and owner is a former Champion Designer so I can see the similarities there but it's such a new company.

So, any feedback....possitive or not?

Looked in to them but no dealer network, would have had to buy factory direct (little to no price difference, inconvenient at best to go there, etc).  They are solid boats, look great, supposedly ride nice but the fact that I had no local support kept me from pursuing them.  It's a boat, something will go wrong, your dealer is in a lot of ways more important than your boat as if you can not get it serviced it's just not doing you much good regardless of what brand it is.

Hope they make it, it's a nice looking boat and their gel coats with the fade schemes are really sharp.

I've been checking them out too, it almost seems like a cross between ranger triton champion and skeeter lol. And the simple fact you can get 20's on the trailer as a factory option... BLING BLING haha. Joking aside I agree with the whole they aren't very local. The nearest dealer to me in in Tennesee, and I live near terre haute IN

The group running Legend now no longer has ties to Champion.  As I understand, the original Legend was a splash of a Hawk boat hull which was a splash of a Viper hull which was all tied to John Storey of Champions yesteryears.  When he (Storey) left Champion, he was not allowed to build a deep V, wedge type hull similar to a Champion so he supposedly took a Ranger 480 series boat and made a number of hull mods to it and the Viper was born.

I would highly recommend taking a hard look at the legends.

there is some truth in the replys you have gotton so far and some myths.

But what is sure is that if you are looking for the finest quality boat on the market for a great value Legend is it!! i believe you have dealers in your area and i understand one is coming to Maryland. there are 25 Legend dealers in the US and 3 international. As far as John Story there was never a no comp against what John could design, only that he could not design for 5 years after champion. the Cobras design was so similar to the old 190 Champs...just lighter and faster. There is truth that he did take the 400 series Ranger and Champ 190 and try to blend the 2 as they were the 2 hottest designs during that time. Legend LE series was splashed off the that design, and while it has had a major face lift in the 5 years the company has been building boats, it remains very similar. The Alpha Series is a whole new bird, and incredible. As far as dealers it is nice to have one in your backyard but i know Ranger guys from Colorado that fish the fLW and say they went to TN to get the boat because that dealer takes better care of them from that distance than a local one could. :-/ anyways i have owned 5 out here in Las Vegas we have 4 dealers in the west and you see alot of them now, according to mercury they are the fastest growing Bass Boat co. in 2 decades. they have been in business for over 5 years........ with that said i could go on for hours telling you about these boats, and i wont lie i am the National Advertising Director for Legend so i may be biased ;)but we really are just anglers building really cool boats. if anyone has any questions you can reach me at jamie@legendmarine.com or jamie@basswest.com or heck just call me at 435 559 4690, i think you will find that i love all brands of boats, fishing, and will give you 100% straight answers.

Legend LE21 CDX w/3.3L 300 Yamaha HPDI

At first glance I got the impression of a cross between a Champion and a HydraSport. I spent a good hour looking the boat over from bow to stern and must say this is an extremely well engineered and manufactured boat.  The quality of workmanship along with the fit and finish makes this one of the top boats on the market today.

On the water the boat handled excellent even though the water had only a moderate chop of 8 to 10 inches. I ran the rig through a slalom course that's used for skiing, so I only used every other buoy.  At 50 to 60 mph the handling was smooth with little input on the steering wheel.

Hole shots (0-30 mph) were easily in the 5 to 6 second range, I wasn't sure if this was due to the hull design or that big Yammie on the back.

Top end was in the upper 80s as per GPS, but I would like to check it with a radar gun.
