Trolling Motor shaft length question

Featured Replies

I am currently fishing out of a plastic bass hunter boat. I for a new trolling motor and it seems the minn kota endura fits the bill. I found the 50lb at wally world for $200, but it has the 42" shaft. Is is too long for the boat? It is had to pass up such a good price plus a $60 rebate. Thanks for the help.

i bought the 55 lb with the 36' shaft for my 14 foot jon boat.  you can get it from bass pro with the rebate.  they also sell the one your looking at with a 36' shaft.

I always buy the longest shaft and the most thrust I can afford; unless I'm extremely shallow I like to keep the motor as deep as possible.

I believe the recommended formula is: measure top of mounting area to water plus 18 inches............Al

Thanks for the great information. Using the formula, I would definitely go with the 36". Again, thanks for the responses. Now I just need to get out to BPS.

Catt, just out of curiosity, why do you prefer to run your TM as deep as possible?

Better control & less surface noise  :)

X2  + You can fish more windy spots if the motor stays in the water.
