Daiwa TD-Z vs New Daiwa reels?

Recommended Posts

For some reason lately I've developed a bit of a desire for a TD-Z 103ML.  I know they have a following and a reputation as great reels.  So I'm wondering how the old TD-Z reels stack up to the newer reels I already have.  I currently have:

Daiwa:

Steez 103L with a Zillion SV spool

PX-68L Pixzilla

Zillion SV TWS

SV 103 HL

SV 105L

Alphas Ito 103L with Alphas 105 SV spool

Alphas 103L

Shimano:

51E Curado and Chronarch, and Scorpion 1001

Scorpion 71

Curado 201E

Curado DC

Do these cover all the bases, or is there something the TD-Z will do better than these?

Thanks,

Dave

The TD-Z frame and the Steez SVTW frame are the most comfortable palming reels Daiwa has made. I see you have an SV 103. The TDZ 103 is the same frame but much lighter. Tuned correctly, they are some of the smoothest reels you'll use as well. There's endless spool and dress up parts available for them. The downside is the 7:1 gear set is getting hard to find from the TT and most, if not all, the parts are gone from Daiwa stock stateside. PLAT still has parts in stock though. First thing you have to do is put Carbontex drag in them. Stock drag is garbage. If you're going to take the TD-Z plunge at this point, look for a Type R+, ITO, or an AOI.
