Smackdown in 10LB

Featured Replies

I've been toying with the idea to move on from my high vis yellow sx1 15lb braid to stealth gray SmackDown in 10lb. This would be for a finesse setup and it's would go on a tatula LT 4000 on a nrx 85s. My thought process behind the 10lb was that I could may go to straight braid on some applications. My question is has anybody used SmackDown in 10lb ? I just put several spools of 30lb on my casting reels and am shocked at how thin it is. Does anyone have any pros/cons to from SmackDown to sx1 either ?

10# Smackdown is super skinny.  A large arbor reel like a Tat 4000 would give great casting distance with light baits using at least 15#. The stuff is JDM dia. like Sunline.

Knot strength going to be weaker than its rated strength thats for sure. Likely get 6-7 pound knot strength if that with palomar, uni, fishnfool.

Your 30# line is good to low 20's knot strength.

Have you tested this?

Used it for a short time on a spinning reel as my river-wading-smallie line. It's diameter is crazy thin, which is good until you get a good hit and rock out an overly powerful hookset......I broke on the hookset 4 times. Just popped it like nothing. So I had to switch to a reelset. Went home, ordered the 15lb - found the diameter difference was barely noticeable and never had another hookset break.

Might be worth it to up the strength a notch, especially on a casting reel.

yes

I also have 40# and its knot strength isnt close to rated strength.

For its diameter it pretty consistent with other lines of equal diameter. Example: 20# PPS8S @.009 breaks low 20's and 30# Smackdown @.009 breaks low 20's.

So with smackdown compare it to other lines of equal dia not rated strength.

How about with a FG knot?
