Kayak fishing

Featured Replies

i just got a kayak about a month ago and was wondering if anyone else fishes from one and do i really need rod holders on it?

Cool. What kayak did ya get?

I have 4 rod holders on mine. Two installed in the yak itself and two more on a seat that I bought. I'd reccomend at least two. I usually never bring more than 3 rods on a trip.

The main think with yak fishing is to KEEP IT SIMPLE!! just a handfull of your fav lures and two sometimes three rods.

If you want any more tips or whatever on yak fishing just ask. I've got plenty to say! :)

Ike :) 8-)

I only fish from a kayak and a depending on what kind of fishing you are looking to do a rod holder is not necessary. I fished a whole season without one with no issues and I did my fair share of trolling. My new Kayak does  have a rold holder so I have already used it more and in many cases I have used it to hold the rod while I paddled to where I needed to be.

Good Luck!

I have 3 rod holders on mine..The 1 on the front holds my rod when I'm paddling and the 2 on the back hold spare rods.. I only use mine for river smallmouth fishing getting from spot to spot so I don't need a depth finder or anchor..I try to keep it as simple as I can

I've got two flush mount behind me and am going to add a Scotty on the dash to more quickly free up the hands when I've got to paddle. I would say at least two and definitely agree with the comment above to keep it simple. It's easy to overboard rigging a kayak but there are a lot of things you can do to make yourself more efficient and your time on the water more about the fishing.

The Malibu Mini-X that I used once had two flush rod holders mounted to the side and a little behind the seat to aide the paddle stoke. I found that 2 rods were plenty, at least for me. When I get my H3 Freestyle float tube/kickboat hybrid, I'm going to fabricate 2 PVC rod holders and have another rod lying in the storage area behind the seat.

I have two flush mounted on the back, and a scotty in the front.  It all depends how many rods you wanna take with you.  I personally like to have more than one rod rigged up so i dont constantly have to tie on different baits.   I have a depth finder on mine, and i think it has helped me catch more fish, and eliminate spots that aren't holding fish.
