Favorite creature baits for skipping?

Recommended Posts

I’m planning on a sizable tackle order this Spring - always like trying something new.  Wondering which creature baits you like best for skipping (not as a jig trailer) and how you rig it?

I’ve skipped a lot of Fat Ikas on wide gap hooks, tubes on an Owner Phantom hook, Rage Bugs on a Fin-tech Title Shot Skip Jig... curious what others are having success with?

You might look at Berkley Chigger Craws and Reaction Innovation Sweet Beavers, I really like them both.

Thanks, how do you rig them for skipping?

Texas rigged with whatever weight you choose and I always peg the weight when skipping. I have skipped them weightless to change up the ROF. I am sure you could rig them on a jig head as well, I have never done it that way though.

Berkley pit boss, reaction innovation beaver. If you have spare time check out cheater baits. It's a swimbait designed by a guy who use to live here where I live. Killer baits to skip into lay downs and tullies.

I pretty much skip Tubes instead of creature baits etc..They seem to skip the best and stay on the hook well. I feel with a tube, it can mimic a baitfish if you work it like a fluke, hop it like a craw, add rattles...I just texas rig them, but Tubes have become part of my arsenal again after forgetting about them for a few years.

Tubes flat out catch fish..Plus you can buy about 8 different sizes for either a large profile, thinner profile etc...100's of colors...Bass Pro has some of the best tubes imo....Gitzit, Zoom, then the Gene Larew ringed tubes are also really good. I like the hollow tubes so I can add weight inside if needed, rattles, scent etc...

The Biffle Bug would be a good skipping bait since it is part tube and can be modified several ways. This way you can adjust it for each situation regarding structure, depth etc...

This may be generic, but at the end of the day.....I would probably grab a Senko for skipping as my first bait, not a creature, but kind of hard to beat a stick worm texas rigged skipped through bushes etc..

The Rage Menace would be my other choice as I can buzz it on top if needed at any time and it does not have too many appendages. If skipping open water to attract attention, really can skip everything, I try to skip Frogs on every cast.

I have a wacky worm and Caffeine Shad on 2 different rods at all times.  It’s the 3rd skipping rod that I want to have a creature bait on more this year.  Good suggestions above..

Ever try to skip a Keitech Salty Core Tube?  Maybe more similar to a Fat Ika, but appear more tube shaped. I hear they are dynamite to skip..

We like to skip Zoom horny toads and Stanley Ribbits.  We mostly rig them weightless on a 4/0 EWG.  Sometimes we will peg a 1/8 oz. tungsten.  The skip attracts them and then the toad falling gets em to hammer them.

YUM Bad Momma. Bait gets no love but it's compact and it's somewhat oval body shape seems to make it skip very well. It's a little shorter bodied than most other beaver style baits. I fish it with a 1/4oz weight and 3/0 EWG a majority of the time.

Give a craw tube like BigBite baits a try. They're bulky, but skip  easily. I use an internal weight. A great alternative to beaver style plastics.
