Dobyns Champion 735 XP- Reviews?

Recommended Posts

If you have this rod, what is its best application in your opinion?

I am considering it for frogs, football head jigs, heavy cover pitching and 1 oz or so swimbaits and scroungers.  What do you think?

I use mine for frogs, toads, and heavy pitching. I bet that it would work well for football jigs, but have not tried it since that rod usually has 50 lb braid.

I have one that I use exactly the same way.  Frogs, toads, and heavy pitching.  I love it.  It has to be one of the best frog rods on the market.

Ploppers and Carolina Rigs should be added to the list of applications.

I have the XP 735 & 736 & they are both excellent Rods. I use the 735  for the horny toad style frogs, large spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, large jigs, & Carolina rigs with large plastic baits(12 & 13"). The 736 for 1/2 & 3/4 oz hollow body frogs. The 735 will work for all you asked about, you will be very satisfied.

Not sure about the 735 but I bought a Extreme 744 last year for throwing football jigs and it is a great rod for that. Caught a 4-4 with it throwing 1/2 oz. jig. It shows its rated for 1/4-1/oz. but if one wanted to go with one oz. jigs I would consider the 745 or another
