Would the lake re freeze??

Featured Replies

Sooo two of the inland lakes around me have been thawed for about 3 days and temps into the 50s. Now we have two days of last cold weather. today it’s snowing and 28 degrees and tomorrow is supposed to be 36 and sunny but a low of 28 at night. About 15 mph winds.  But then Tuesday and from now on it shows 50 and higher with sun. Do you think the lake would re freeze in those two cold days ?? Or could I possibley get to go out wedsndsy or maybe this weekend with  temps into the 50s

Don't fret. It takes more than a couple of days to freeze a lake.

That’s what I was hoping. I just figured maybe because it just thawed a few days ago it would freeze again super fast

I think you'll be safe for Wednesday. Good luck and hope you catch them all.

The wind will keep it from freezing too.

At worst you would get that paper ice around the banks. That's it.

No chance at this time of the year.

Bodies of water heat and cool very, very slowly -- by they time the ice is gone, the water has warmed enough that 2 days dipping below freezing won't come anywhere close to making it refreeze.

We've had open water for a few weeks and a couple days of cold, snow, rain, and freezing temps over night had skim ice around the edges of some ponds. You might see some thin ice but nothing that will last for an extended period if it's supposed to warm back up.

Sun is too high to be worried about refreezing. Along with the wind, forget about it until November. :)
