Looking for a good Medium power casting rod for throwing lighter, finesse style baits.

I have a 6'6" Medium Lightning Rod Shock from the last generation (with the split cork grips). I think I might look for a little bit better rod though.

Find a used 6'10" MF Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth.  New I couldn't say.

I had that rod too.  The tip is way stiffer than the lighting rod 66m.  The 66m lightning rod (non shock) tip is so soft it is basically an XF despite being labeled as mod fast.  It reminds me of those higher end XF soft tip 1/8 to 5/8 M powered jerkbait rods that guys will sometimes use as finesse rods.  Its the poor version of that.

Moderate fast action is supposed to be softer than extra fast.

Say what you want about Kastking reels, their rods on the other hand are excellent and often overlooked.

 

I have the Perigee II casting and spinning versions for 2 years and they are still in great shape. They are 2 piece versions that I bought for travel but I find myself using them locally as well.

 

They are a nice black and silver color that go well with any reel.

 

My second choice would be a St. Croix Triumph rod. Can't go wrong with this rod.

XF describes where the flex point begins, not what it takes to flex it.
