I would like some feedback or suggestions about some rods and reels. It’s been a while since I’ve bought anything new so I’m not sure what’s what anymore.  I’m beyond ready to upgrade all of my stuff though.

Bought a tatula ct 7.3:1 about a month ago and so far I love it. I have been searching for a rod to pair it with but can’t seem to pull the trigger on anything. I need a frog/ flipping rod so I’m looking for a 7’ and up heavy. I’ll be using braid of course. I’ve messed with the falcon buccoo 7’3 heavy and I like it a lot. Haven’t really found anything else in store that I like so far. Anyone have experience with this rod?

also, I bought a 7’1 M Curado spinning rod today. Fell in love with it in store and couldn’t put it down. I need a reel to go with this rod. I’ll be using it for wacky rigged senkos, flukes etc. weightless presentations. 8lbs line. I’m wanting something lightweight if possible and I’m trying to stay under 150$. So far I’ve had my eye on the Fuego LT, Exceler lt, Shimano Sedona ( because I’ve had one for 12 years and it runs perfect to this day). Anyone have any input on these reels or some other suggestions? Thanks in advance guys.

Have you checked out the Dobyns Fury 735? It should work fine for moderate cover flipping and frogging. Alf has a 15% off sale running right now on all dobyns rods too.

What's your budget on the frog rod?

Cabela's has the Pflueger Supreme XT for $120 shipped right now. I would get the 25x size for your rod, it's also only 6oz.

Very good choices on both rod & reel.

That Tatula CT would pair really nicely with the 7'4" H/F (TTU741HFB) Tatula Bass rod for dedicated frog/flipping. If you're fishing cover that's not too heavy then you can also go with 7'1" H/F (TTU711HFB) for more versatility. The 7'1" feels super nice with the Tatula CT and balances perfectly.

For the 7'1" M Curado, Sedona, Sahara, or NASCI in 2500/3000 size would all be nice. There are incremental benefits between these three reels but not a huge difference. My personal preference is Sahara simply because the colors would match better with the Curado rod. While Fuego LT is a good reel, mix-matching Shimano/Daiwa just feels weird to me lol.

I can’t find the fury’s anywhere in store but I have read a lot of good things about them. I like to be hands on before I buy but I may not be able to the way it’s looking.

Man I didn’t wanna day it and get laughed at but it’s REALLY tough for me to do that. I feel like Shimano rod has to have a Shimano reel. But strictly rod manufacturers can have any reel paired with it.  I’ve always been that way.

But it I have always loved Shimano and I’m really digging this tatula so I figured I might be able to live with it.

When you say tatula, do you mean the tatula xt? Or just plain tatula? I’ve seen 2 different tatula rods and different price points.

There's the Tatula OG (Black and Gold with foam grips) that go by model convention like TAT610MHFB, 2018 Tatula with new cork grips that go with model numbers like TTU741HRB, and the Tatula XT which have lower quality components and model numbers like TXT701MFB. To further confuse you, there are the Tatula Elite series (TAEL), which are pretty similar to the TAT & TTU Tatulas, unless you step up to the TAEL's with AGS guides.

As much as I want a Shimano to match the rod, 6 oz is a no brainer for me because I’m looking for a very light setup. Thanks for the input!
