Lily Pad Fishing Rods

Featured Replies

Hey

I want to try flipping lily pads for perch here in Norway. I watch alot of bass fishing on Youtube and i have been in the US and fished bass. There i bought a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier 2, 7 fot, M fast. I have noticed that you use heavier rods for lily´s, like MH & H. Is that because the bass is big and hard to get out of the cover? The perch is smaller, a big/nice perch is 2 lbs and up. A REALLY big one is 4 lbs and up. Do you think a M rod is okay for flipping pads for perch or should i buy a H rod? (13 Fishing just got to Norway and with that we get the *American* way of rod ratings!)

Thanks!

Hi Nicholas,

I would think it depends on how heavy the lilly pads are. Small pads with thin stems you might be able to use a medium power rod just fine. If they are thick and heavy probably medium heavy to heavy would be better.

Just try it, as long as the lure weight is within the rod's rating. Worse case you find out you are in for a fight! I use a similar rated rod and fish weightless roboworms in pads all the time. I run 10-15lb braid, sometimes with 8-10lb flouro leader.  I'd call that overkill for perch here, a 2lb perch around here is a very large perch.

My guess is perch will like baits that are smaller than what we normally throw for bass, this will allow for a lower power rated rod, imo.

Thank’s! We use smaller baits here, but i fish 6inch worms and thats okay. The redfin gets a lot bigger than the yellows. So when people fish for bigger perch (not 50g sizes hahah) we fish closer to bass fishing than yellow fishing.

Then it is just to wait for the pads to grow!

I fish a lot of waters so they can be thick or thin! Thank’s!

Nice rod but shipping would cost a lot for a 1 piece rod and the customs for a so expensive rod.

This fish was caught at the edge of the lily pads, so to be able to fish inside the lilys would be  ?
