minn kota ultrex problem

Featured Replies

Hi I just installed my new ultrex and it worked for about an hour and then the foot pedal stopped working. I had the same issue 2 weeks ago when i got the first one. i sent it back to store and they sent me a new one. it was made this year according to the serial number. all the lights were flashing and had an error message on my remote. I think it said motor not deployed. please help

Can you still steer it with the remote?

it is strange that 2 of them went bad so soon. is the motor mounted on a flat surface? that fault could be coming up if it is binding when deployed.

i have had a couple warranty  issues with my Ultrex in 3.5 years.

first one was the steering cable broke. that was attributed to a bad position sensor on the motor. I was told the first batch of motors had some sensor issues.

i could still steer it with the remote, but the pedal went slack.

the second was the on/off switch broke.

Hi. I can’t steer with remote. It is mounted on a flat surface.

if you are having the same issue with 2 different motors it sounds like an issue not caused by the motor to me.

the motor does not have to be fully deployed to operate.

i can run my motor half deployed holding the cable, when running in shallow water.

without seeing the setup I don't know how else I can help.

I would call Minn Kota and tell them what is happening. they are usually pretty helpful.

One other thing I would check is the voltage going to the motor.

are you getting the full 24 or 36 volt (depending on which motor you have).

Under voltage can make the electronics do strange things.

How do I check the voltage?

if you have an electric meter. Just check at the 2 connections where you hooked up the motor power. if there is a bad connection you may not be getting the full power to your motor.

Ok. Ty.

What gage wire are you using to get from the battery to the motor? If it is a long run you need a heavy gage wire at least 8 gage and maybe 6 gage.

Have you had the same problem with two foot pedals or two entirely different motors?

The message on your remote is what’s displayed when the motor is not deployed.  I would not expect the motor to turn if it’s sensors say it’s not deployed.  That’s the problem.  What’s causing the problem is a little harder to determine.

I’m using 6 gauge wire. The problem was with two different ultrex. Sent first back now this is doing same thing. When motor is deployed it says the message on remote. “Motor not deployed “ or something of that nature.

If you disconnect it from the batteries, charge the batteries,  then reconnect it and deploy it out of water,  does the remote show it as deployed?

I’ll do that today or tomorrow. The boat is not with me.

I would call customer service. There are known issues with the units purchased recently that were made after 12/18.
