Savannah, GA fishing

Featured Replies

Hey, anybody bass fish around the Savannah or Brunswick areas?

I do in Brunswick, only 1 public pond I fish out there.

It's on Blythe island, holds decent Bass and relatively unfished. Its inside the park, Google it.

But most the time I go I'm going saltwater fishing, reds, trout, and sheepys

I’ll need an out of state license. My research shows I can get a one day for $10 and additional consecutive days for $3.50.

I’ll let you know when I’m that way.

@NittyGrittyBoy, I'm lurking and still fishing, just raising this little fellow I had in February.  Thanks for the shout out and hope the fishing is going well for you lately!

@HeyCoach, I fish a tad in the Savannah area, I've taken the kayak out of King's Ferry several times.  There is also Lake Mayer in Savannah.  There's the Evans County PFA right down the road from my house.

Mostly, with the baby I've been sticking close to the house and bank fishing.  I'm about to start heading to Lake Juliette near Macon, though.

Anyway, if you wanna talk fishing our local rivers and ponds for bass just PM me or reply back here!

Cool. I’ll holler at both of y’all, @NittyGrittyBoy and @Hook2Jaw when/if I end up that way.

There are lots of stormwater ponds throughout those areas. Wherever you're at down there, break out Google Earth and see what's in your area. If the ponds are over 8-10 years old they'll be holding bass and probably some big ones at that.

I just visited Savannah this weekend and did a trip on the ICW...oh man, what a great fishery, those reds fight like mack trucks...my arm is still sore. LMB are fun, but with that kind of access to the ICW I'd be fishing it all the time too.

@Junger around Darien, Ga where the Altamaha spills out into the Atlantic, there's a magical time of year when the shrimp start running up the mouths of the rivers.

Reds will chase them, and you'll catch Reds and LMB on the tides. So much fun. Everybody needs to experience that at least once in life.

Your absolutely right, catching a mean red on 7' MH/F on topwater is ?

Any chance of catching reds bank fishing?

Oh yeah you can catch em from the bank, a boat makes targeting them easier though

Thanks @NittyGrittyBoy Ok, what do you use to catch reds? I know I can use live shrimp, but what artificial lures do you use?

Paddle tails on keel weights or swimbait heads, Vudu Shrimp, and I also Texas rig and Petey rig soft plastic shrimp with good old bullet weights and 2 or 3/0 worm hooks.45243_1556982656429.thumb.jpeg.45c174b12fb325f7c82a1d3988477f59.jpeg

That 25" girl came off a Z-Man Shrimps on a 2/0 BPS XPS Magna O'Schaunessey with a 1/4oz bullet pegged about 12" infront of the plastic.
