neko rig question

Featured Replies

i've seen multiple video's/pictures of the neko rig with the hooks entering opposite ways. some videos the hook point goes into the bait and out towards the tail, and others the hook point goes into the bait and out towards the nose and nail weight.

WHICH IS THE CORRECT WAY TO RIG? driving me nuts lol. i've fished it both ways and haven't seen a significant difference in hookup ratio, granted i haven't fished it a TON.

Not sure if there is a “correct” way. If so, that would suggest there is also a wrong way. That said, I always rig with the hook perpendicular to the worm, coming out the side. I don’t like it parallel, pointing at either the head or the tail. Too easy for the worm to fold over the hook point that way. Just my preference.

I always use an O ring and point the hook up towards the tail going through the worm a touch and the ring. Great hook penetration using this method.

I always have the hook point 'pointed' at the head, or the part you have the nail or screw in.  My hook is held on by a piece of shrink tubing shrunk with a lighter.  I don't know what happens if the hook is pointed the other way.  Someone showed me how to rig a Neko rig this way and that's how I've always done it.  I don't miss more fish than I do with other techniques, so I've never tried it another way.  I get better hookups with a Neko rig than I did with a Buckeye spot remover shaky jig head (I feel like the presentations are about the same).

If I am using GY baits, I used 2 crossed 0 rings and keep it perpendicular the bait

I rig the hook parallel to the plastic with the hook shank closer to the bottom.  I feel like the this way keeps the hook point from snagging as I am hopping it along.  It also keeps the hook oriented for a roof-of-the-mouth hookset.

I use a single o-rig and rig the hook through the plastic behind the ring.

I don't use an O ring, I just hook it through the plastic. Just thought I'd further confuse things ?
