Lead Sinkers

Featured Replies

I have recently ran out of lead sinkers, Plain lead. I went and purchased a large supply. Very disapponited in the tips not being center and they are very sharp. I had a serious problem with them cutting my line. Has any one else seen this. I have had to sit down and file them so they will not cut my line. I do not want to start buying tungsten.

thanks

Part of dealing with lead weights ?

I have never had the type of problem you are describing with lead sinkers. Before I use any lead sinker I take an ice pick or similar sharp pointed instrument and open up the ends and round them out before I use it.

I make my own.  To keep the holes open I string them a few at a time on galvanized wire that I get at the hdw store.

I don't think lead can really cut line unless you're using really light line. It might damage it though, like add a kink or curl.

I use Eagle Claw mostly, and have noticed the molding has gotten worse over the last couple of years. They're also using a different mold that is longer and skinnier than I like, and I've taken to filing or shaving with an Xacto knife many times. I use a small nail to reshape the hole. It's a pain for something that shouldn't have to be.
