Can't seem to find the information i want about mid-depth cranks online. So if anyone could help me with my questions i would appreciate the help.

 

1. Do mid depth crankbaits work year round?

 

2. Is their a best time of the year to throw mid-depth crankbaits?

 

3. With mid-depth crankbaits should i always try to keep bottom contact or how am i supposed to fish them?

 

4. Are there any ideal places or structure you should fish mid-depth crankbaits around?

Define mid depth, you mean diving crankbaits that run down to 10'?

To me mid depth is 8-12 feet.  Right now I am using mid depth cranks a lot.  A lot of bass have moved off the flats and are suspending on drop offs.  My favorite quarry, has a long shelf at the edge of a flat that is about 3-6 feet.  At the edge it drops to between 12-24 feet as you run the length of it.  I use the crankbait right off the edge and do pretty good there.  I don't intentionally bounce it off anything but do occasionally hook up some weeds.

I'm talking about crankbaits that run down to 12 feet. Also thank you dens228 for the response!

I find that the best time to use a lure that runs 12 feet down is when fish are 12 feet down.

    Assuming the cover allows it, bouncing or ticking the bottom (and other things down there) is a   good tactic, but it isn't always required, cranks will catch mid depth at times

    No, but wood, rock, humps, ledges, and other uneven contours are good places to start

Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. I fish mid depth crankbaits anytime I'm fishing cover or structure that falls in that 5'-12' depth. I generally fish all crankbaits with the goal of bouncing it off of whatever cover/structure/bottom is present and it is no different with mid depth cranks. 

To me, the only difference between mid depth crankbaits, deep drivers and shallow crankbaits is how deep the water you're fishing. You want the bait to bounce off debris at the bottom (primarily rocks), but not drag off of the bottom 100% of the time, so use the right crankbait for the water you're fishing.

 

Crankbaits do work year around (although I prefer to fish them early and late in the day in the summer or on cooler days in the summer) and mid depth cranks are no different.
