This is being sold on walmart's site but from a 3rd party seller "Shooting Surplus" is this reliable and has anyone bought a rod from this? Do you know what they ship the rod in?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from a third-party seller on Walmart's site if they adhere to Walmart's merchandise/return policy. I've done it before and I've had no issues.

Any 7'1" MH is the newer model. The old one had a 7'2" MH/R, a 6'10" MH/F and I think one more, but no 7'1" rod.

 

As for buying the rod on walmart.com, I am not that familiar with Walmart's marketplace and their rules but I would imagine you are well protected. I once bought a rod from Amazon that arrived with the tip broken completely off -- and not even in the package, and I had no problems returning it and getting a replacement.

They made a 7'1" MH X-fast rod in the original tatula line. I've got one and it's a sweet rod.
