Picked up a new setup and cant decide if i should use braid or fluorocarbon on it. I will be using it mostly as a worm/jig rod. I fish in South Florida from the bank or my kayak, so I’m usually fishing in and around grass. Is there any benefit that i would gain using fluoro instead of braid (or vice versa) as far as the presentation goes? I would assume if I go with fluoro, I should use something in the 15-17lb range? 

Either one depending on the majority of the cover you fish in the most. 

I only use braid for frogs (50#) and punching (80#) but not exclusively. 

I'll use 14# or 16# Sniper for most bottom contact presentations in light to moderately heavy vegitation and 20# Shooter for the heavy stuff and light punching. 

 

I'll also use Shooter for swimming worms, and swim baits regardless of cover.

From the line sizes you memtioned your new combo must be a bait casting rod and reel.

The cover type should determine your line choice. Braid cuts through most vegetaion but difficult to break off when snagged from shore. I see no advantage using FC line in shallow water that south Florida has predominately and suggest a premium mono or copolymer line. 15 lb Big Game (.015D) is a good choice or 19 lb (.014D) Sunline Armillo Nylon line would be my suggestion.

Personally, I use 30lb braid to 15lb flouro liter.

Braid to Armillo for me in that situation.braid will cut weeks and give you better distance from shore.  Truth be told, I am using more Armillo and less FC

30lb braid. Not too hard to break off if snagged. Will probably get most of your baits back if snagged. It’ll blend in with the grass and you’ll get solid hook sets. That’d be my choice. 

It really doesn't matter. All lines are fantastic today. If you are having trouble with losing fish on treble hooks, get a more moderate action rod or switch to mono. Each line has its own sinking/floating properties as well if you are unable to tune the weight of the lure to the depth you want to fish. I spend way too much on gear for maximum sensitivity in all techniques so I use braid to not hinder that sensitivity. I don't even use a leader anymore. 50 years ago there was only mono and guys caught just as many fish as we do on our $1000 rigs with $30 of line.
