I was ordering some Slider stuff from Charlie Brewer, and saw the Whirly Bees on their website.  Kind of looks like a Beetle Spin with the spinner on the hook instead of on an arm.  Anyway, I heard that they're pretty popular down in Tenn for Smallies.  I ordered a handful to see what they were like, but haven't used them yet.  Anyone have experience with these, how, when, where to fish them?  

My wife doesn't fish for bass, but goes crappie fishing with me each spring. She bought a whirly bee spinner last year at our local baitshop, and ended up catching several nice crappie on the bait. I ordered her a couple more about a month ago. It's a good all around lure to throw. Almost anything will hit them. She just used a cast and slow reel retrieve.

I use to make them for fishing below dams in current .Caught lots of different species with them including smallmouth and largemouth . 

 

 

I tie a hair jig fashioned after a Whirly Bee, as well as one tied on a RoadRunner.  Both fish very similarly but the Whirly Bee is a slightly smaller pattern.  Frankly, I use them more often when targeting walleye in current areas.  I always have a few in my jig head box.  I had to develop a technique to tie the spinner on so it wouldn't foul in the hook when cast which was a far too common occurrence.
