@A-Jay What paddle tail swimbait trailers are those?

They are an out of production Berkley Power bait offering.

1/2 oz usually for me and occasional 3/8 if I'm wanting to fish it crazy shallow. Don't own any 1/4

Arent those 1/4s for panfish? My cabelas has some $3 chatterbaits in the crappie section and they are soooooo cute. I never bother to look at the weight on them.

might be the 1/8ths.  My son throws 1/8 in ponds and gets good numbers of bass.  lots of small guys but he will get as many 2-4 pounders as i do with the 3/8 and various bigger baits.

I don't know how he does it because i just reel the dang thing to the surface every time.   hard to believe my 13 yr old is more patient than me.

Yea I feel as if mine is in the top of the water column everytime. I dont reel fast and I sweep it every once and a while to change the action. I use 1/2oz. I just received a 3/4 today so I'm going to see how well that works this weekend. They even make 1.5ozers. I now only use jackhammers. I know they are 3x the cost but you can feel the difference and the underwater  comparison videos tell the tale. I'm not a tackle hoarder and need 5 of every color. I only have a couple in each weight range so it's not like I'm throwing paychecks stocking them. I'm not sure if they catch more fish as I am successful with every bladed jig I've thrown. Its become my favorite technique mainly because the dobyns 736cb is such a pleasure to fish. I can't recommend it enough for chatterbaits.

Another vote for 3/8ths and 1/2 oz. Don't even own any other size as 3/8ths gets 99% of the action anyway unless its windy or I need to fish deeper.

I just did a head to head comparison using Rage Blades in 3/8 and 1/2 on identical rods and reels. The depth of my prime lake is shallow and would favor the 3/8 but my combos were much better with the 1/2 for accuracy, distance and ease of cast. I added various trailers to see if the 3/8 would be equal once it had large hunks of plastic attached but no joy, the 1/2 was still better.

The test equipment consisted of a matched pair of 6'6" G Loomis IMX MBRs in Medium Heavy with Shimano Chronarchs sporting 40 lb Power Pro braid. Same targets from the same distance off a Bonafide SOT Kayak.

This was a revelation for me as I really thought the 3/8 would win hands down but the 1/2 was simply better. On my medium the 3/8 is still king but that's a 5'5 pistol grip and this weight is optimal for it and the presentations I make with it.
