First Frost

Featured Replies

Growing up my dad always told me that one of the best times to fish was immediately following the first frost. This held pretty true in all of the ponds I grew up fishing.

I haven’t come across this idea in other places.

Anyone else use that as sign to hit the water?

I'm unsure that the first frost itself is a major milestone but whenever the water temps drop in the fall, that can certainly be a good time to fish.

I've heard many " frost " inquiries over the years.

Deer won't eat acorns until a frost.

Chiggers won't go away until a frost.

Squirrels have warbles until a frost.

But haven't heard frost in relation to fish bite but it's relationship to dropping water temps does make sense.

Remember though......dads always right.

First frost is always interesting on my aluminum decked boat.
