Bill Murphy in his book In Pursiut of Gaint Bass has a chapter on lure color. Bill was a dental technician and an expert on white coloration of teeth. Using the color white Bill painted several of the same crankbaits the same shade of white using paint from different suppliers. To his trained eye the white lures looked the shade under sun light but changing lighting temperature the white would shift tones and look different. When you match teeth it's important the tooth looks the same under various lightning.

Bill fished the crankbaits and one white out fished all the others. He painted all the other lure with the paint supplier and they all worked. What was it the bass could see that he couldn't ? Bill's conclusion is we don't have a clue what bass see, the green fish prove us wrong every time we think know.
