Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 11, 2019 Super User Posted December 11, 2019 Just looked at the DFG website for trout plants, and it does not include DVL..Anyone have info to the contrary..? Not sure how this will effect the swimbait bite if at all. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted December 11, 2019 Super User Posted December 11, 2019 Hmmmmmm....could affect the power bait sales in area!! 2 1 Quote
BASS302 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 What Region contains DVL? Is DVL region 5 or 6? Maybe you can ask the DFG via e-mail whether they are planning to stock DVL? according to the Cal DFG website - South Coast Region (Region 5): AskR5@wildlife.ca.gov Inland Deserts Region (Region 6): AskRegion6@wildlife.ca.gov 2 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 12, 2019 Super User Posted December 12, 2019 Yep, might be worth a call or email. They haven't planted trout for years in my home lake but sometimes they seem to go a bit rogue and drop some in unscheduled. Last year we noticed a lot of fingerling browns being planted one week even though they allegedly do not plant browns, and per a hatchery acquaintance they'll be doing their first rainbow plant in years next week even though it's not listed on the dfg website's planting schedule. Weird thing for us is they regularly plant the lakes and streams above/below but not the big lake itself. On a positive note, your fish will still gladly chase a swimbait. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Super User Posted December 12, 2019 I'll have to give the DFG a call. Years ago when they would stock trout, the swimbait fishing was great, much better than when it wasn't being stocked. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 12, 2019 Super User Posted December 12, 2019 Not sure if Southern California State operated rainbow trout hatchary is operating. Tom Quote
contium Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Not sure if it's the DFG but someone is stocking DVL. It's on their facebook page. Mt. Lassen I think. Quote

Tom I don't know, but Castaic and most all the city park lakes/ponds are getting trout plants, and soon. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 12, 2019 Super User Posted December 12, 2019 DVL is operated by MWD, same agency who owns and operates Castiac. Castiac was not being planted for 5 years and not on a regular basis the last 2 years. DVL on the other hand was being planted monthly with 4,000 lbs of rainbow trout. I know the Filmoore hactuary was closed that supplied Ventura and LA county and the Mt Whiney hactuary was closed that supplied Inyo-Kern a few SoCal lakes. Lassen was a private hactuary supplying larger adult size rainbows. Casitas was scheduled for a plant, don't know if it occurred? Tom 1 Quote
