Taking a Stab at Hair Jig Tying

Featured Replies

I’ve made dressed trebles in the past but never tied hair jigs. I finally got around to it.

I didn’t want to be excessive in the use of hair and they came out the way I had envisioned.

They look better in person, lol.

I made them for my dad, who I plan to take salt water fishing in the next few days.  I’ve been told red and white hair is a good combination for the salt so I made some that way. I also made a few inline spinners.

In addition, I plan to take him drop shotting with shrimp and squid too.

My dad has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s anyone who knows, there is no known way to reverse Alz.

This has been a bit tough for me to face. It is from him I learned to work with honesty, integrity, character and to do the right thing, even when doing so could cost you. I’m going to spend the next couple weeks with him.

I apologize for this being a bit too lengthy.

Those look good.  You might use a little crystal flash in them some time and see how you like it.

Not bad at all man!  Sorry to hear about your father, just spend as much time with him as possible, and make all the memories for yourself as possible!

Sorry about your father, I could not imagine. Your hair jigs look really good, they look as if you had been tying them on a regular basis, well done!!!

You tying looks gd.  Sorry about your dad, but your doing a gd thing and spending time with him is good for both of you.

islandbass, the jigs you tied look good in every aspect.

Dealing with people suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's can be very challenging; I wish you great patience.

Never assume he doesn't understand you, always keep telling him what you want him to hear.  I've been told that the recognition/cognition isn't a constant, but comes and goes.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the tip about the flash, Jig man.

Those ties look fantastic.  It's appropriate to keep bucktails rather sparse.  You get more movement from the hair, and it creates the baitfish silhouette that makes them so effective.  As you gain more confidence in tying, try using different combinations of materials that impart different action under water.  Sometimes you can stumble upon a great thing for what you do and where you fish.

I'm sorry to hear about your father.  That is a tough thing to have to experience.
