St croix finesse/wacky rig stik

Featured Replies

Got some Christmas mula and was looking to get another bass x or premier since I lost my finesse rod in a kayak accident awhile ago. (Dont ask why its taken so long) I have a medium heavy bass x and like them, and am looking for a rod use wackies and finnesse with. Would the 6'8 m or 7'1 ml be better? I was thinking the 6'8, as it would be a little more versatile and shorter for creek, river, and yak fishing. Thoughts?

Also was looking at powell and 13 fishings sale rods, but I like St croixs product, company, and warranty. They look pretty cool to boot aswell

I do wackys on an ML - picked up a Dobyns Fury 702SF for wacky and other light-lure techniques.

Looking over rods, I picked the Dobyns over the St. Croix based on user comments here.

I actually use a MH/Moderate BassX for wacky and other weightless plastics.  It works well.

Ive always heard good on Dobyns. I think the colt and fury have models that would be viable. Is their customer service/warranty system good? Is the col any good? Thanks for the input

Oh really? Do you know which model? I like my bass x except the handle length is a little shorter than Id like for a med h. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it

Dunno about the CS - this is a new rod this year. The Fury is the 'lowest' rod in Dobyns inventory that has a limited lifetime warranty. Color? I like the black/green theme they have going with the Fury - natural cork grip sets it all off.

I like them, I think I considered getting one before for a frog rod. Ive felt em a couple times. They're nice, the handle lengths are so short though. Im a big lanky kid and Im used to fenwicks and St. croixs but I think Ill get a dobyns. I might try the colt since it has a slightly longer handle and theres a 6'9 model. Thank you for the feedback!

Yeah but I dont think they have any moderate fast models. I know they have cabelas exclusive models, so Ill have to check. I checked on tw and it was just f and xf. Unless your talking casting. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I was thinking of using some backup stuff for wacky rigs and stuff but Ill just be better off getting a medium light. I was just digging around reviews and stuff on the rods I was looking at, I might just go with St. Croix. My cabelas is crazy dude, there were a couple hundred people going in there for a raffle in october (waiting in big lines and going out early) just for crappy items. I think the best thing was an 80 dollar heater. Tri state people are crazy (especially when its PA and Delaware).

You couldn't pay me to go to any store this week.....lol

I only have one spinning rod. I'm going to force my impatient self to use it for dropshot this coming year.

You couldnt catch me in a store either, I was gonna get it online. My cabelas doesnt have to many rods next to their own brand, St croix, and fenwick (and none of the good models in stock most of the time). Spinning reels are easy once you get the hang of it. I dont like either casting or spinning reels better, but I feel pinpoint accurate with a spinning setup. Probably from years of creek wading and losing lures in farm pond bushes. With practice and use, I promise you'll like it alot, and catching fish will help that learning bit a whole lot!

I use a 6' 8" M/F Mojo for wacky rigs and a variety of other baits. It's the last Mojo I've held onto because it's one of the most versatile spinning rods I've owned. It'll do the weightless baits, fishes a fluke or senko great, light T-rig, shakyhead, small cranks/topwater/jerks, nice tube rod, just a great all around rod.

Yeah, Im proabaly getting a St. Croix. Would you say the 6'8 could fish dropshots and ned rigs decently? Im looking at the 7 ml. Thanks for the input, Happy new year

I dunno about the 6-8, but my 6'6 ML fishes both just fine and I even use my 6'6 UL with Neds on occasion without an issue.

I previously owned a st croix 6'8 M-XF Mojo spinning rod. Very nice rod, bur I found it a bit too stout for what I was looking for. I would go with the ML as st croix does fish a bit heavier than their rating. They make great rods though. It was the best senko rod I have ever used. But for lighter finesse techniques I would go with ml if going with st croix.

So I think Ill go with the 6'10 ml. Im not decided yet. I liked dobyns rods when I felt them, the spinning butt legths are just really short and looking at some recent threads people were saying there were better options. Thanks, as I know I ramble alot when ever I get in a convo on here.

Yeah, I see what your talking about. Its crazy but when you think about it theres alot of bass rods out there that are not accurate. My triumph med fast was actually a little lighter, but pretty perfect for what I used it for. I love the rods from them I've had, and they're a good company. Its either gonna be them, dobyns, a powell, or something thats discounted. Thanks for the insight, Happy New Year

Yes, it can do it, but if that's going to be primarily what you're going to fish you might be better off going with the 6' 10" ML you mentioned. I fish a 6' 10" ML/XF LTB and it will do about anything.

Ok, thanks, thats what Ill do, unless I get one of the sale rods from tw
