Livewell/Pump Winterizing

Featured Replies

My first time winterizing my boat.

I read to put RV antifreeze in my bilge area and run it though my pumps including my livewell.

My question is, should i be leaving the excess antifreeze at the bottom of my bilge area or wipe it out after?

I don't think it would hurt by sitting there but thought I would check with people who probably know more.

Thanks.

I'v never used it in a boat but pour it down the traps in my RV.  We don't even wipe it off the sinks or shower floor until next spring.

Not sure you what to use any type chemicals in your livewells   ;)

I would just pump everything dry and leave well enough alone.

I agree. I have done that for years and never had an issue. If there is no water there is nothing to freeze. Even in my camper I only blow the supply lines out is compressed air. The drains are big enough that any left over water will have plenty of room to expand and not break anything if it freezes.

Yes in Ontario it's a very good idea to use RV antifreeze. Even if you blow out with pressure air the water will run back to low spots in hoses.

Make sure you pull the plug even if indoor stored.

Next spring flush your livewell completely.
