I just got this boat and motor and I have some questions.

Living in Pa, winterizing a boat is a must, but that is a bass boat that sits out all winter.  Does a boat with a removable motor and gas tank still need winterized?

The gas tank is portable, and has gas in it.  I have it in my garage that isn't heated, but isn't as cold as outside.  Should I put stabil in the tank?   We keep our riding lawn mower in the garage along with 2 push mowers and they usually start fine in the spring.  

How about the motor- Should I hook in up to a big water barrel and run any leftover fuel out of it?  

Anything else I need to know?

I would say to winterize it. Your lawnmower and stuff dont have water running thru it. Water can sit in the motor or may have got into the lower unit oil and can freeze and crack the housing. Even being in a garage and living in PA it will get pretty cold in there.  

Should add a stablizer to your gas to keep it over the winter.

Yes winterize it.If it's not going to be used for awhile what would it hurt, You are only protecting your investment! Also I would run out the fuel and fog the motor. As for the gas yes add stabil.

My 20 hp sits all winter long, my 9.9's sat all winter long, I have never winterized them. They start fine come spring.

I run the fuel out of them and make sure the water is drained out after the last time I run them.

It's a 7.5hp mercury.

Like I mentioned, I've never winterized my smaller motors and I've never had an issue.

I forgot to mention, you also definately want to change the gear lube and check the seals in your lower unit.

Pour the gas into your truck/car, run the motor until it quits, remove upper lower unit screw if it's white drain if it looks good replace screw.

You can buy fogging oil for $3-4 so pull spark plug and spray oil in sparkplug hole and turn prop in gear.

Saving $3-4 is not a very good idea.

I have my boat a 1987 Skeeter Starfire 175 with a 1975 85HP Johnson hooked up to a 12V solar panel, and all I have done for the past 3 years is crank it every 2 weeks. I mix StarTron all year with my gas, check out there website, www.starbrite.com , this is some good stuff.

When I winterize my mercury I drain the fluids. replace all except gas and water. then place in my garage on a stand with a blanket on top. also if your engine 2 cycle I would put in your truck   although im sure you already knew that.

Why would that make a difference?

Lots of 2 strokes like yours are premix so you are running a very small amount of oil thru your truck. It will do more good for your truck.

Do what JSNLong says to do.

If you can use the gasoline in any other equipment I suggest you do so.

If you have gasoline with Ethonol in it, you will need the Sta-Bil Ethonol treatment along with the standard Sta-Bil gasoline stabailzer.

Winterize the motor and consider replacing the water pump.
