Line for a Curado 70

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just a quick question that I wanted to get some second opinions on. Recently I purchased a Curado 70 and plan to use it mainly for swimjigs. It balanced well with my 7’3” MHF Micro Magic pro. I usually throw swimjigs on 17lb flouro, but with the smaller spool on the 70 I feel like I won’t be able to hold enough line. You guys think I should thrown on some 20lb braid and use a leader or try to downsize my FC? Just answer what you would personally do. Thanks a lot

40lb. braid, and then 2-3' of your FC leader should get you the same results.

A 40lb braid has the diameter of 10-12lb mono, so you should have plenty of capacity.

I'd go 40 or 50# braid.

When I was experimenting with braid on my Curado 70, I found only one braid that I liked: 20 lb. Berkley Fireline Ultra 8.  It fed consistently, I got good distance out of it, and it didn't dig in. You need to be aware, however, that Ultra 8 is higher diameter for the published test than some other braids.  To me, that was an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

OTOH, the line I eventually decided was perfect was 12 lb. InvizX by Seaguar.        jj

The biggest line I use on Curado 70 with long cast and still have enough line to be comfortable is diameter 0.13“ ~ 14-15lb FC, but after a few snags you might have to replace the whole spool.

For braid the minimum of line that I use and not have a lot of backlash problem is 30lb PP.

40 lb braid

I use 3 different fluorocarbon lines on my 70s,  6, 10 and 12 #.

I have 12lb Invizx on all three of mine with a backing.  Plenty of line.
