Hello everyone, I am looking to get into throwing bigger swim baits. I live near Philadelphia, and have heard of guys having luck around here on them. I am wondering what a good starting rod/reel combo, as well as line type would be. I am torn between a moderate or fast action. I’d like something that can throw both single/treble hooked baits if at all possible. I guess an all-around beginner set up for throwing these bigger baits is what I’m looking for. Appreciate any responses.

Maybe tell us what size, and weight baits you would want to use, this would help recommending a rod and reel.

Not completely sure, I’m thinking somewhere in the 6-8 inch range to start out.

The type and weight of the baits will determine the rig you will need. I.e. throwing 6" Huddelstons vs say 8" Hud's vs 8" glide, or plastic baits will be completely different. As you may know, the heavier the bait, the reel will need to be in the 300 to 400 size, and the rod in the heavy to X heavy range. For 6 hud's ect, you can get away with a size 200 reel and a lighter rod.
