I recently purchased the 9" Berkley pliers.  Came with a lanyard/sheath.  Have it attached to the side of my kayak.  I didn't have much need for the split ring tool, since I deal with split ring replacement at home.  I have a small split ring tool for that.  But here is what I use.......

I just ordered these today from kastking on eBay.  7 inch pliers, split ring, and braid cutters. I’ll affix the bungee cord it comes permanently to the boat where I sit.  Nothing worse than losing something ing you just had in your hands 

The best I have found after trying multiple different ones is the Reaction Tackle pliers.  Comes in both straight nose and split ring nose.  The cutters is excellent too.  Awesome pliers for $15-$17.
