I love Humminbird 360 and just got the Mega, but Garmin has beat Humminbird to the “Live 360.”

 

I think this is a technology that’s truly worth the phrase “game changer”.

 

This is just cool! Scanning the bottom in front (or whatever direction) of the boat in real time with apparently high quality returns.
 

It looks cool but their press release doesn't give a lot of details.  If they can truly provide the 360 experience and the LiveScope experience,  it will be a game changer.   50ft max range is disappointing.

Thanks for the link.  Their website has a graphic showing it scanning out to 150ft but the press release says "Simply turn the transducer sideways to enable the new ‘top down’ perspective mode to see a wide view of what’s in front of the boat up to 50 feet away".  I see how it works now.  It's basically a 20 degree livescope beam turned sideways.  The 20 degree beam will be very limiting but it only cost $100 to add to LiveScope.  Who wouldn't want to add it.

The 50’ deal came up on another site and the Garmin guys were saying 200’ including a beta tester. This does look pretty cool and doesn’t cost a fortune (as long as you have the LiveScope).

Na, there’s rumor of a Live 360 from Humminbird coming soon.

Yeah that might change things for ya. 

I would say the effective range is 50-70 feet.  I have found that is mainly effective in 12' of water or less.  Takes some tweaking of settings to get a good picture.  I still use forward most of the time although I haven't had the opportunity to use it around docks, which I think will be really cool.
