Souped Up SLX Test DriveToday

Featured Replies

Warmed up to 50 today with light rain, so I took my cleaned and lubed SLX with new VR SS high speed bearings and Carbon Tex drags with several different lures to a little 77 acre lake 45 minutes away and gave it a work out with different lures and weights and I am really pleased with those bearings.   Unweighted Senkos out a reasonable distance and as I started up with 1/2 and 5/8 of various lures the distance really surprised me.  I wasn't passing the Chronarch MGL, but really respectable distance.  The Carbon Tex did not get a work out today LOL

Nice, I may do this to my SLX reels. Where did you get the bearings?

I've never changed them out myself, any tips or tricks?

Flush and oil the stock bearings before scrapping them. The difference new bearings make after that is much less significant. The Carbontex drag is always a good bet. I can hook you up if you want.

I was planning on getting a few sets for my 2 SLX XT reels and 4 curado 200G reels.

did the same thing when i bought my slx dc carbontex drag washers, ceramic bearings and a 95mm handle.  quality set of spool bearings do make a difference.

Why are unweighted senkos everyones measure for casting light lures?

even unweighted, senkos are fairly heavy IMO and should cast well with most any lowpro baitcaster

I'll have to agree, as a 5" Senko with a standard 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook is fairly heavy.
