New, and Improved Whopper Plopper?

Featured Replies

At Cabelas today and saw these new red packaged Whopper Ploppers and the back said new, and improved, weed resistant convex tail.

But a hard look it appears to be the same as the original. Sorry the first pic is so cropped, had to crop it to post.

What's up?

New package with same lure.

Tom

I've never had a problem with weeds caught in the tail, but trying to avoid dead leaves with the trebles that have fallen in the Fall, can be very frustrating picking them off after every cast, especially in a narrow river lined with trees on both sides. But, I guess that probably happens with every top water lure.

I can't tell any difference from the pics though.

We've had problems with thin weeds getting caught in the joint.

The pic on the back gives it away, (I think). The original had two flat surfaces between the two sections of the body, it looks like the new one has a taper to the rear section that prevents weeds from getting hung up on it.

A ball joint in lieu of a flat joint has nothing to do with the tail blade being convex.

I see what you are are saying poor discription of the lures makers promo.

I've had thin weeds and moss get stuck and twisted in the joint, but I don't know what else I'd expect fishing a treble hooked bait with a rotating tail section around weeds like that? If I really want to avoid it, I switch to a Toadrunner.
