Xi5 vs Terrova

Featured Replies

Hi everyone - I'm in the market for a new trolling motor and want to get one with the spot lock feature.  Which of these do you like better, and why?

I’ve got a Terrova, and a friend of mine has an Xi5. It seems the batteries are an issue on the foot pedal of the Xi5, at least it is on my friends but I think he forgets to turn it off. So the AA batteries don’t seem to last long. I do like the shape of the MG foot pedal better. I don’t use my entire foot on the pedal, just my toe of my shoe. So the full size MK pedal is bigger than it needs to be for me. I like the remote on the Terrova better. It has a screen so you can see at a glance what your speed is set at, how fast you are going and it has 5 spot lock locations it will store at a time instead of just 1.

Seems that most bass guys are going with an Ultrex now.  It has the cable driven steering combined with the features of an electric steer like spot lock, ipilot, etc.  If you traditionally fish from the front deck of your boat, this model is probably the right fit.  It may also depend if you use Humminbird Electronics as they can sync up with the Minn Kota bow mounts better.

I am in the same boat...I have the Motorguide X5, and I would like the spot lock feature as well. I have 3 Lowrance units installed on my boat, so I do not want to have to change those out to be compatible, but at the same time, I do not like my X5, it is wonky at best.
