Night Bass Fishing At Santa Ana River Lakes

Featured Replies

Hello Everybody,

It been three weeks that I stayed overnight in Santa Ana river lakes, the main fish target is trout in that lake and always people have good bag of that lake. during my first overnight that I was trout fishing, I found out some fisherman catch bass there, so next week in my overnight I start to bass fishing, except trout, I got giant shads and catfish and carp(on worm on Carolina rig).

depending on moon phase and weather and water temp I tried everything but no success. is there anyone that have some tips for night bass fishing in this particular lake?

ive attached the lake google map picture and sign my spot by red in it, if you have better idea to where to stay at night also please let me know.

ive watch all video go glenn and read the very helpful articles in here and I have my buzz bait and spinner bait and 10" black worm and my white and black frogs(black one popping). also have plan to use glass bids in my soft plastic and frogs.

I am open to any suggestion and I wish to have success on my next overnight which is tomorrow.

Just noticed this post.

Didn't know these lakes were open for night fishing. The Santa Ana River lakes are seasonal pay for big stocked brood trout primarily with a hold over catfish population.

I would think the Largemouth bass population is marginal.

It's forecast to be cold and overcast this weekend, not ideal for staging pre spawn bass. Try to find the shallow wind protected areas and use a sliding weight T-rigged worm with glass bead in lieu of a C-rig. Keep it simple with a black 7 1/2" and 10" power worm and fan cast the area. It's a mater of putting the worm in front of a bass willing to strike.

Black crankbaits and chatterbaits can also be quite effective. I like the Storm Wiggle Wart for this application personally. The black Colorado blade spinnerbait, black buzzbait and black power worms are all good choices too.

I usually only rig up one or two lures for night fishing myself, and the black power worms are nice because if I am fishing earlier all I gotta do is change the soft plastic when it gets dark!

Hi,

\Yes it is about trout, but I do bass fishing at side, coz I hear someone catch bass there, and last week I got a giant shad, so I was sure there is bass. that was very fun, going there next week again for overnight.

Nice fish!

They are basically just big open pits. . . . mostly. There are some 'features' in a select few places. I would try around the few areas that have some sort of structure. The culverts between ponds are always fish magnets and ANY other irregularities that might serve as ambush points. Move quietly along the shoreline.

I would use 7" or 10" texas rigged worms (as Tom mentioned), a spinnerbait or a crankbait/jerkbait

Welcome to BR Big Hands.

Doubt if Santa Ana River lakes (ponds) are open now do to the travel restrictions we have in California. Castaic lake was open yesterday 3/24/2020, don't know much longer.
