Rod protection

I found some rods at a yard sale cheap ..they were in a fire not literally but rediant heat bubbled the rod finish on the top part down to the graphite. These rods vary in lenghth from 5 ft to 10 ft .is there anything i can put on them to seal up the fibers..??

A small area can be coated with finish epoxy. Urethane is water clear, thin and durable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fibers are already compromised but if you got them for cheap not much to lose.

Test the rods by mounting a reel with line through the guides and lifting dead weigh; 2 lbs for ML, 3 lbs for M, 4 lbs for MH, 5 lbs for H. Don't lift more then a 90 degree Bend.

Lightly buff off the damaged coating with light steel wool, clean with alcohol and re coat the rod blank using Urethane.

Rod blanks don't need a finish, it's just paint, agree with above, rod blanks are cured in a big oven to make them a rigid tube, anything over 250 deg. will damage them irrepairably. They can fail at anytime.
