Installing merc HD hub on a croxton razor prop please help

Featured Replies

I'm a wee bit frustrated at this point. I bought a razor 4 xl from Mark croxton to put on my ranger z21. I also asked Mark to send a new hub kit which he did. After going tk install it I remembered that the guy who I bought the boat from had put a new lower unit on with a 1.25 shaft. The hub kit mark sent didn't fit that. That's fine. I drove an hour to get a 1.25 kit which is the HD flow torq ssr hub. I've been trying to install the hub for over two hours. The only difference between my old tempest and marks is that on the flat sides within the prop there are vertical lines that aren't in my old tempest. As you go to knock the prop in those lines carve grooves into the rubber of the hd hub. Still, I can't for the life of me get that last 1/4 inch of the hub to go in. I'm at the point where I'm worried I'm going to damage the prop from the shear force of trying to drive the hub in. My guess is I'm just stupid but I'm going Crazy here.

No Experienced answer for you - sorry.

But  I am interested in the outcome.

Following.

Perhaps a phone call to Mr Croxton can shed some light on this.

Those SSR hubs are hard to get in, almost impossible to get out, but they work well.  Almost no prop chatter.

So I've got a grand new stainless prop $500 a brand new HD hub $175. I've got the prop sitting on a few towels on top of a concrete floor. I'm trying to keep from damaging the prop but would you think slinging a framing hammer with a wood block or a large socket makes sense? I feel like the fins are going to bed. It's really hard to swing a framing hammer into your prop.
