Opinion of these reels

Featured Replies

I am in the market to buy a spinning reel soon, and I am not sure if I should pick up the Shimano Stradic or the Ultegra. Most of my fishing consists of bass fishing. Do you guys have experience with any of these reels, or even both? Please give me your personal pro and con findings

yeah your right about that

Both are good reels.

I've had both.

The ultegra is made of graphite.

The regular stradic is aluminum.

The stradic CI4+ is carbon.

Take your pick.

In my opinion, they are all decent reels.

If money is an issue, you can get the ultegra or nasci. If the sky is the limit then go for the stradic CI4+.

Also I like the CI4+ for bottom contact like shaky heads, drop shops, neds. The lighter weight makes it more sensitive.

The prefer the Stradic FL for moving baits like small crankbaits, blade baits, jerkbaits. The aluminum absorbs the vibrations and makes it feel smoother.

Same opinion as short fish.  For bottom contact get the Ci4+.  The carbon body makes it lighter and makes it easier to feel a pickup.

I have a few Stradic CI4, 1 Stradic FL, and 1 Ultegra. Hands down the CI4 is a winner for lightness. They're smooth enough, not as smooth as the Stradic FL, but their weight makes it a winner. The FL is obviously very smooth and the drag is wonderful. The Ultegra was my initial step up in spinning reels a few years back and I still have it around. It doesn't get much use, but it was and is a great reel. It gets the job done at a good price point. Unless you're looking for a reel with weight savings or having the newest and smoothest technology, the Ultegra will do the job. Never had any problems with mine. But like anything else, if you're looking for some niche of luxury, I'd definitely spend a little more cash and get either the CI4 or FL.

i owned the Ultegra and it was awesome, one key difference between it and the stradic is the tapered bail arm where it meets the line roller.

to me this is worth the cost difference alone. the line goes smoothly up onto the line roller every single time.
