I dont know if this will work for your pliers, but I used to wrap mason line around the handle of my framing hammer and spray with polyurethane. This carried over to my pliers, really helps with grip.

I ended up getting some heavy wall shrink tube.  Seems pretty good.  

Now to see how it does with wet fish hands.
