Gotta hand it to dad

Dad taught me how to respect a gun and clean a gun 47 years ago. He taught me how to fire a gun 45 years ago. I'm 50. Mom hated guns. When I was a kid, we'd go to the range, but would always have to stop off at dad's office to pick up the guns because mom wouldn't allow them in the house. Fast forward to today. Mom passed away 3 weeks ago. Riots in Chicago, apparently scheduled in dads neighborhood. He just called me. He's locked and loaded. Asked him if he wanted me to come by. Said he's good.

Prayers for your dad.  I'm probably late, but sorry to hear about your mama.

Sorry to hear about your mom.

Been around guns my entire life and learned to respect them early on.

Hope your dad stays safe from this ridiculous human behavior.

Geeez, sorry to hear about your mom!

Teaching you to be self reliant and being able to protect yourself is one of the best things parents can do.  You both should be proud

Dad bugged out today. Headed up to his summer home in Door County. I'm heading up tomorrow after work to meet him. I'd post the social media stuff I have about burning down Chicago but the thread would get deleted.

Bless your Mom!

I was born and raised in those neighborhoods on the South Side, it’s best that he left.

Dad grew up at Lincoln Lawrence and Western on the north side. Mom grew up in the Austin neighborhood on the west side. Dad's neighborhood is currently a melting pot and mom's neighborhood is one of the highest crime neighborhoods in Chicago. Dad's a stubborn bas+@rd. Dad's talking about getting his ccw. I'm for it, but my sister is not. His arthritis is bad and he can't pull a slide on a pistol. I told him to just get a small revolver and brought over a LCR in 38 special for him to look at. Dad currently lives on the northwest side in a cop neighborhood and there is very little crime where he's at. I still worry because he's an easy mark being a senior citizen.

Whatever

I know how you feel.
I grew up in Englewood (‘nuff said)

My wife is from the Division and Pulaski area.

Some areas of NW side are very nice with a low crime rate, but he still has to careful no matter where you’re at.

All my best.

Englewood has been messed up for as long as I can remember. It was bad 30 years ago when I was peddling towels and work uniforms. 15 years ago I was running refrigeration at restaurants on the south side. Some scary sh!+ going on in the neighborhoods...business as usual. Division and Pulaski has cleaned up somewhat.

I don't miss those neighborhoods one bit after working in them for years. I don't go into them willy nilly. I'm happy I now live in the burbs.

Dad took his concealed carry classes this week. He's 81. I gave him my 38 special. He called me after the class and said "I didn't shoot anybody, I didn't shoot myself, and I passed the course."
