Hello I’m a 16 year old kid fishing out of a decked 14 foot jon boat. I recently fixed up the boat as a project. The past 2 days I was on the water. All that happened was I lost one dink. I’m scratching my head because I don’t know what to do. I threw everything I have. I fished the banks the whole time. I spent some time dragging Texas rigged soft plastics over man made structure. I’m from western pa. I’m fishing the quemahoning dam. It is a fairly big lake with the deepest spot being 120ft. The water temp was anywhere from 70-72. It is very clear as it is fed by a spring. There’s a variety of structure, fallen trees, some weeds but not very many compared to other lakes. The lake also has a ton of man made structure. Porcupine cribs/pallets and spider humps. I spent most of my time in submerged trees. I might try another lake this week called Shawnee. Smaller and shallower. I’m stumped. Can anyone help? Its a week or two beyond spawn now. I’ve read about fishing points but I have no clue on how to get started with that. I have a garmin striker 4 plus on the boat if that helps. (I made a post earlier but it was lacking some info)

 

Okay, we’re talking about largemouth bass during the post-spawn season.

If it were me, I’d move my game away from the dam end of the reservoir,

to the headwaters. More pointedly, the big bay fed by Quemahoning Creek

and the long, slender cove along Green Bridge Rd.

That’s I was there yesterday morning for a little while. Had a few bites but I didn’t execute. Saw a few going for my weight-less Texas rigged senko and they weren’t very aggressive. I was also throwing Texas rigged weight craws. What should I be throwing this time of year?

The post-spawn can be a mixed bag, because it's a transitional period.

It's a good season though, because bass must eat to restore reserves lost during the spawn.

It can also be tough, especially for spent females, and also because it's a transitional period for lures.

While spinnerbaits may have been working a couple weeks ago, crankbaits may be working better now.

A plastic worm is always high on the list, although the best worm-fishing lies ahead.

Last but not least, some of the best topwater bites occur during the post spawn season.

 

Location is always first, so your best bet is to preselect the best post-spawn sites in the vicinity

of the best spawning flats. Search thereat for weedbeds, woody cover & rocky cover (In that order).

Okay thank you so much! I’ll use this next time I’m on the lake. 

have a few set ups so you can be ready. I make sure i have one frog rod for when im targeting shallow shaded areas and heavy vegetation.  if thats not working i cast a chatterbait or buzzbait  parallel the shore like 10-20 ft out  along  some kind of grass  or shaded line. When i run into some kinda of wood structure i either throw a frog at the base or in shaded areas or throw a swim jig and hop and swim it out. if thats not working i break out the dynamite.

The males are likely still guarding fry over by you. They just got done doing that here in Ohio around me. If you just want to catch bass throw flukes pop-r and weightless worms I recommend truck worms. 

 

  For the big girls move out to the first drops and  throw cranks or drag worms. If that doesn't work move to the next drops. Weed edges are always money of you can find them. Those big girls are going to be putting the feed bag on. 

And you might get to 10-15' depth and try a drop shot. That's all that worked for me today in CT.
