Featured Replies

I know that this is the Bass Fishing forum but I'm sure there's some musky Anglers out there. I am switching from spinning reels to a baitcasting setup was wondering if you guys could give me any tips I'm the best baitcaster for 80lb braid thank you

What lures are you going to be throwing with this reel? Heavy musky lures with lots of resistance like double 10’s put a strain on reels and you need something that will hold up. Your budget is also a big consideration.

The top 3 options are probably the Daiwa Lexa, 300 or 400 size, Shimano Tranx 300 or 400 size, or the Revo Toro beast.

I mostly run Lexas and are happy with those but I would recommend going to a shop and putting them in your hands.  I have found the 300 size is more than sufficient and better for chucking bug baits all day.

You might be able to get by with a 200 size Calcutta.   Those reels are built like tanks and if you tore it up, at least you'd have a good story to tell, with evidence.

I am looking for a setup to throw 5” 6” bull shads  and 6” bull gill for primary musky that bass might also hit. Thinking 806 dobyns fury with either diawa Lexa 300 or shimano tranx 300. Fishing in eastern pa. Any advice?

The Lexa 300 I use on my Daiwa DXSB 8' for swimbait fishing isn't fished that often by me, but when it is, that reel is my favorite.

I've got a Calcutta too but I have heard good things about the Revo Beast

All solid suggestions here so I don't have much to add. I fish a Lexa 400 in PWR gear ratio since I fish double 10 bucktails. You won't need that and would be fine with a faster ratio and a 300 size reel. I see the bull shad is 1.9 oz so nothing too massive.
