Dobyns Sierra 765 FLIP

Featured Replies

Hey,

does anybody use this rod or know something about it?

I find it on Tackle Warehouse https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dobyns_Sierra_Series_Casting_Rods/descpage-SSCC.html but not on the Dobyns Website?

It really is the SA765FP model, rated on TWH to 1 1/4oz, on other sites https://www.hookd4life.com/product/dobyns-sierra-series-rods it is rated up to 2oz?

Any information would be great, thanks!

The Sierra series evolved from the Savvy series and received some component upgrades, most notably, Fuji guides.  The Savvy series was initially limited to the 766 Flip which would handle up to a two ounce weight. The 766 Flip (Champion ) is Gary Dobyns' choice for his punching duties.  The Sierra series has done very well and generated the addition of the 765 Flip. My first Dobyns was the Champion 765 Flip.  I would put this model's upper limit at 1 1/4 ounce but frankly an ounce is more like it.  The Sierra is a tad slower than the Champion but has the same great balance point.  Both 765's feel like shorter rods when fishing because of the balance.  The Sierra would be a really good overall flippin stik for both braid and floro and the use of plastics and or jigs.  Hope this helps.

This helps me a lot! Problem is I already have a MH Rod for Jigs, which is performing well at 3/4oz!

So maybe the 765 is too similar, I was actually looking for a rod with more like a "real" 1 1/2oz Power, but not a 2oz flipping stick, something in between would be perfect.

What do you mean by the 765 is limited to 1oz? In casting weight?
