Side Imaging Pics....

Featured Replies

I was piddling around with my Side Imaging today and got some interesting shots that I thought I were cool and that I would share.

This first picture is a school of crappie within a brushpile/tree top.

Here is another angle of the same pile/crappie

I thought I knew were all of the under water bulk heads were located. Well I found another one. To my knowledge there are 7 bulkheads on Allatoona. Here is the 7th one I have found. Actually there are 8 bulkheads but there is one bulkhead that is silted in pretty bad so technically there are 8 bulkheads that I have found thus far. You can see the creek channel going in between the 2 bulk heads. YOu can also see feeder creeks ajoining the creek channel at the bottom of the picture.

Here is a picture showing the blow out at the end of a boat ramp. YOu can clearly see the end of the ramp and there is a hole at the end of the ramp that looks like a hot tub. Fish LOVE these blow outs at the end of the ramps. Good place for released fish from tournaments to hang out :( Some of these blow outs can be as much as 5 feet high/deep. They are nothing but a pile of rock pebbles piled in a mound

This last picture is just a feature that I found while playing with my SIde imaging. If you put your cursor over one of the camera images it displays a smaller version of the picture taken at that location. The picture HAS to be on your memory card for it to display.

Remember when viewing Side Images that a shadow typically means HEIGHT or areas that show no return so you can get an idea how big the structure is based on a Side Image. If you need to know 100% for sure how tall a piece of structure is you can always run over it with your sonar to get a better idea.

Here is one last image to show you how you can use shadows to interpret what you are seeing.

Below is a picture of 2 schools of fish. By looking at the shadows that these schools emit you can tell if they are near the bottom or totally suspended. It's kinda like the flashlight theory. If you hold your hand close to a wall and turn on your flashlight. The closer the shadow is to the wall the closer your hand is to the wall and vice versa. Same thing with Side Imaging you can get a pretty good idea on the depth level of the fish by looking at the shadows that these schools of fish emit.

Wow, that if freaking awesome. I wish I had the kind of coin needed for one of those. The unit you have probably cost more than my boat.

hahah not for nothing but maybe that should cost more than your boat!!!! those pics are awesome and might making fishing too easy.  i want to get my dad that system for his birthday. you think hell be pumped or what. and just a question. when u see the pictures of left and right. is that directly to the left and right of your boat or is it behind your boat to the left and right. thanks

The little blue boat icon at the top center of the screen represents your boat so everything is behind you, stuff at the top is most recent. It allows you to select a point in the image and marks it on the map so you don't have to guess where it is behind you. Dont have one just really want one ;D

Mike, these are really awesome pictures.  I would love to have one of these!!!

That just amazes me to this day!..... Wish I could justify getting one.

MIKE: thank you for the pictures....I have downloaded the pdf of the manual, and was reading through it, but could not quite find something of which puzzles me....

tell me if the following logic is possible with this machine and how relatively difficult/easy it is to do:

1. you can "click" on something, let's use the brushpile as an example

2. it then takes you to the map screen, where you can:

3. save a GPS coordinate and then you can:

4. use the map screen to navigate to that coordinate....

is this the case?   or is it much more convoluted than that.....

Mike, at 3-3.5 MPH what are your typical settings as far as the chart speed and sensitivity?  Any other controls that you think are exceptionally important?

I bought one of these things last year and still dont feel exceptionally confident that I am seeing what I am supposed to.

I have scheduled three different days w/ people at the KY lake Roadtrip who have this sonar, but I would like to know your general stats.  Those pics are awesome!!!

JohnG...Yes to answer your question it is as easy as the steps you just mentioned. Just pan over with the cursor to the "brush pile" you see on the screen and hit mark....It will save that way point into the gps exactly where the brush pile is. I have this system and it it great. Well worth the money.

thank you!!!    I was at a trade show today and saw a demonstration, and yes, it is very easy to do so....

Hey Mike, would you mind at a later date if I email you with some questions from my buddy Jude and I about these units.....he just got one and we took it out yesterday and it was well.....confusing at best for us, hard to tell what we were looking at.

Also, it was kinda hard to see the side imaging even on full screen, dont know if maybe we should go with the grey scale or stay with the blueish/black scale.

Which is easier to read on a sunny day?

We would have to kneel down or stoop over to read the imaging and well, you obviously cant fish while doing that.

Thanks for any help.

Cyas,

D
