Shakey head

Featured Replies

I’m trying to get into shakey head fishing.  Seems every one is split.  Either people fish them on a spinning rod or a bait caster.  For the moment I’m using a spinning rod.  My gut guy tells me spinning rod.  However, I see a lot of people using bait casters on YouTube. What is the pros and cons between the two?

Some anglers adhere to casting gear for everything possible.

Others adhere to spinning tackle for just about everything (I did for years).

The most popular weight for a shaky head is 1/8 oz,

so follow your gut and stick with spinning tackle.

^^^^^ this ^^^^^.

Shakey head is not really light weight lure, a lot of baitcaster can cast the rigs with ease. I fish shakey head from 1/16oz and can use both baitcaster and spinning.

When I use baitcaster I would fish shakey head the same as any standup jig, shake and pop, but to be able to shake and shake in one spot spinning would do it better and more efficiently.
Dont afraid to experiments use whatever feel comfortable to you.

For me - heavier shakey heads I'll use a bai caster and for lighter shakey heads I'll use spinning.

I use both. No real rhyme or reason. Usually just depends which rods I take with me. I think I prefer spinning, just because it's easier to find rods with a lighter tip.
