Bass boat trailer

Featured Replies

Im considering purchasing a 18 ft aluminum bass boat and I will need to store it outside in the winter here in Michigan. I was told that the trailer will rust far more quickly if it is parked on grass compared to a patch of gravel or rocks. Is there truth to this?

Thanks!!!

Not sure about the grass or gravel thing but if you go with a galvanized trailer, neither of us will be around to see it if it ever does rust.

Road salt will do worse for the trailer than anything. My trailer is stored outside year round. The only rust I have is on the side/guide bunks

Thank you both. The boat has the original trailer that is not galvanized. Just a bit worried about rust is all.

BTW, I'm in Chicago. I get the same weather you get.

If you do periodic maintenance, clean off any rust you see and touch up the paint, it will last a long time.

My grandad's Jon boat trailer finally rusted apart after sitting on grass since 1967. So I guess maybe it's something to worry about in 50 years.
