Hey all first post here.

 

I purchased a Duckett Micro Magic Pro 7' Medium MOderate cranking three weeks ago and have been using it a fair amount. While it is a great rod and I enjoy using it, I mainly throw 1/2 oz Red Eye Shads exclusively. Do you thing that the rod is too flimsy for this? Have it paired with 6.3:1 SLX XT and 15 lb abrazx. Note that I am ripping it through a fair amount of grass when fishing it. 

 

I'm wondering if I should keep it or switch to a Dobyns 705cb.

My question is, are you missing fish when setting the hook?  If not and you like it keep on keepin’ on.

Not at all, just don't want to snap it! Biggest fish I'm catching in my area are 3-4lbs.

Far as the lure - most Medium power rods are rated to 3/4oz lures - so the 1/2oz RES is well within the capabilities.

 

For fish - I've caught up to 10# Northerns on a Medium rod - long as you don't high-stick or do something else silly, that should be more than enough for any bass you catch up there.

When you buy a moderate action rod, it’s going to bend farther down than a fast action. It is supposed to give more flex for fishing crank baits. If you don’t like that about the rod, when you switch, make sure you choose a fast action instead. 

Moderate action rods bend further down, distributing the load across a larger area.  So in my experience, they tend to break less easily than stiffer action rods.
